Piëch Automotive has brought in former Volkswagen CEO Matthias Müller as chairman of the supervisory board. That makes the Swiss start-up known. The company’s workforce is quite well-stocked with well-known names from the automotive industry.
Matthias Müller was CEO of the Volkswagen Group from 2015 to 2018. He is the biggest name that Anton Piëch, son of Ferdinand Piëch and co-founder of Piëch Automotive, has won. Müller becomes chairman of the supervisory board. Next to Müller stands Klaus Schmidt, former chief engineer of BMW Motorsport. He has been involved with Piëch Automotive for the past four years as ‘Chief Technical Officer’, but is now taking a step higher as ‘Co-CEO’. Andreas Henke and Jochen Rudat have also been added to the company’s workforce. Henke has worked at Porsche and Burmester, at Piëch he will be responsible for marketing and branding. Rudat was in charge of Tesla’s European branch and now has to manage sales at Piëch.
In 2017 we heard the first sounds from Piëch Automotive. The start-up arrived at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019 with the Mark Zero, a 4.43 meter long two-seater with a classic-looking body. The sports car is fully electric and is said to have three electric motors, each delivering 204 horsepower. With this the sporty rascal sprints to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds, the top speed is 250 km / h. Today, these numbers seem almost modest when you compare them to Tesla and Lucid’s. Piëch is currently working on a second investment round to raise a total of € 500 million. That is the amount needed to start production. Piëch wants to deliver the first copies of the Mark Zero at the end of 2022.
