Like everything else this year, the seventh season of Formula E will start a little later than usual. Still, the start of the season is near, so the participating teams present their cars and drivers.
It is an important year for the electric brother of Formula 1, because this year this racing class will be elevated to an official FIA World Championship for the first time. It is therefore in the list within the FIA, which also includes Formula 1, the World Endurance Championship, the World Rally Championship and the World Rallycross Championship.
The seventh season would also be the season when the new, significantly improved Gen2 Evo car would be launched. However, you never guessed it, it has been delayed due to corona. Instead, the teams will continue to use their ‘old’ GEN2 cars, recognizable by the canopy over the rear wheels. In the latest edition it has disappeared.
Just as a reminder: all teams drive the same car in Formula E, a product of Spark Racing Technologies. Own input comes in the form of the drivers, the color scheme, but also the powertrain. Each brand develops its own power source, although the strict rules ensure that the specifications are still virtually the same. A modern Formula E racer thus has 250 kW, or 340 hp. That is enough for a 0-100 sprint of 2.8 counts and a top speed of 280 km / h. The battery pack has a capacity of 54 kWh.
The fact that car manufacturers like to use this racing class to promote their EV activities on public roads is evident from the names the cars bear. Jaguar races with an i-Pace, Audi with an E-tron, BMW with an i-model and defending champion DS christens its driving winner ‘E-Tense’. In addition to the well-known factory teams, there are also a number of private teams that borrow cars from Audi and Mercedes. An overview:
