Foxconn Unveils Foxtron Model B and Model V

Electronics manufacturer Foxconn now also designs electric cars under the name Foxtron. The brand now presents two new ones: the Model B and the Model V, a hatchback and a pick-up. In addition, it will show the production-ready Model C to the world, which will roll off the production line in Taiwan from next year.

Where we previously expected Foxconn’s cars to come on the market under a different flag, it now appears that the manufacturer’s own label – ‘Foxtron’ – will also appear on the roads. That name adorns the production version of the Model C, which Foxconn brings to the Hon Hai Tech Day. That is the annual show that Foxconn – also known elsewhere as Hon Hai Technology Group – is now organizing for the third time. Last year it presented the Model C, Model E and Model T, the latter of which is an electric city bus. Now it is adding the Model B and Model V to its portfolio.

EV of format ID3

The Foxtron Model B is a 4.3 meter hatchback in the spirit of the MG 4 Electric and the Volkswagen ID3. The car stands on a shortened version of the platform of the Model C, is aerodynamically quite efficient with a Cw value of 0.26 and should therefore be able to reach a distance of about 450 km on a battery charge. As a refresher, the Model C, which shares its base with the B, is a medium-sized SUV with seven seats and an alleged range of 700 km.

The production version of the Model C also bears the Foxtron brand name on its nose.

In addition to a hatchback, Foxconn presents the Foxtron Model V, an electric pick-up with a maximum towing weight of 3,000 kg and a double cabin. That car must ensure that the Taiwanese market can not only turn to Foxtron for passenger cars, but also for company transport. The brand also aspires to sell cars in other places than just the home market. Whether it will also do so under the Foxtron banner remains to be seen. Foxconn’s other big news lies in a further realization of its CDMS business model.

Own models not the core business

CDMS stands for Contract Design and Manufacturing Service. It is to become Foxconn’s primary industry, with the company designing and manufacturing cars for other car brands. A first step to facilitate this is made with its new HHEV.OS software platform. With its help, the manufacturer makes it easier to design many different models, without having to develop completely different platforms for every few new models.

So you can count on electric cars with Foxconn technology on the road in no time – including on European roads. Even if it is only because of the many collaborations that the brand has previously entered into. The Model C, which will soon go into production, will not come to Europe. However, the brand will soon start deliveries in its home country of Taiwan. The first Foxtrons will be sent there next year.
