Facebook has released Messenger Rooms. With the free video calling service you can call up to 50 people at the same time, with no time limit. In this article we explain how to install Messenger Rooms and how it works.
Download and use Facebook Messenger Rooms
Facebook announced the service at the end of April and then announced that Messenger Rooms would be rolled out soon. That moment has now arrived. The video calling service is available worldwide, so you can also make video calls with family and friends abroad. To start a conversation:
- Open the Facebook or Messenger app on your smartphone;
- Tap the blue button to create a room;
- Enter the names of the friends you want to video call with;
- And you’re done!
You can also make video calls from your computer. Please download the macOS version. There is also a Windows version available. You can make Rooms open or private. In the first type, anyone with the right link can join the conversation. You can only participate in a private session by invitation. You can also let people without a Facebook account participate in Messenger Rooms.
In the enclosed privacy statement, Facebook discloses a few things about how the service handles your personal data. For example, the company does not listen in to audio or video calls. And are you in a video call with strangers? They only see some identifying information about you, such as your name and public Facebook information. When you invite people without a profile, all they have to do is provide a name.
