From 0 to 100 in 4 seconds? Only under 3 is a car really fast!

Every month on the AutoWeek editors we meet electric newcomers who accelerate astonishingly fast. For example, there is a Brabus version of the Smart #1 that runs off the well-known 0-100 sprint in 3.9 seconds. Recently we drove the Nio ET7, which does it in 3.8 seconds. Times that were achieved not so long ago with a supercar or a heavily pumped up SUV.

Of course, as a rider of such a fast sprinter you will never get used to it. Every time you zoom from 0 to 100 in 3.3 seconds as a Tesla Model 3 Performance driver, you will think: how bizarre!

How many fast sprinters there are today can be seen in a certain search function in Carbase on this site. When looking for a car, you can also enter what the 0-100 time should be. Faster than 5 seconds is the highest bet, at least for now. If we set the year of construction to 2012-2012 for this option, so only cars that were new in the price list ten years ago, then you arrive at 450 versions. Please note, this actually needs a filter over it, because often these are various equipment variants of the same powertrain, and body variants have not yet been removed.

If we adjust the year of manufacture in the search, so we set it to 2022-2022, then it yields no fewer than 1,967 versions that sprint from 0 to 100 in less than 5 seconds. You also have to apply the same filters there, but it shows how the acceleration times have increased in ten years.

Extra filter: 0-100 under 4 or even 3 seconds

And it teaches us one more thing: we need to add an extra filter: the possibility to search for 0-100 times under four seconds and maybe even three seconds. We’re going to take it up with the technical guys behind the site!
