Are you visiting Paris by car soon? Then it is quite possible that you will soon have to pay deeper for an hour of parking than the average human arm is long. The Parisians also chose this themselves.
In a referendum held on Sunday, Parisians backed a proposal from Mayor Anne Hidalgo. The proposal: seriously increasing parking rates for cars weighing 1,600 kilos or more. Do you have a car that weighs 1,600 kilos or heavier? Then you will soon pay – hold on – €18 per hour in the city center. Outside the city center you pay a lower rate, but at €12 per hour that is still not low. The proposal was supported with almost 55 percent of the votes, although only 5.7 percent of voters visited one of the 39 polling stations.
A higher weight limit applies to electric cars. You’re in good hands with an electric car weighing up to 2,000 kilos. Is your EV 2,000 kilos or heavier? Then you pay the same amount for an hour of parking as someone with a Chevrolet Tahoe with a 6.2 V8, but also as someone with a BMW X3 with a mild-hybrid three-cylinder. The higher rates do not apply to those who live in Paris and park their car in front of the door.
