Recently, a blood sample was taken from my son. He is a very lively and healthy child of 4 years old. The platelet value was too high according to his reference group > 368 10*3/mm³. Reference group used by ASZ sets a maximum of 327 10*3/mm³
However, with various lab guides I notice that this may be up to 400 10*3/mm³.
Would you like some clarification?
Answer
Your son’s platelet count is completely normal. Laboratory reference values are an aid to interpretation, but are not intended to aim for mathematical exactness. If you are still concerned about this result, discuss it with the doctor who requested the blood sample. As far as I’m concerned you can sleep on your own two ears.
