Diesel price is rising fastest
You may have noticed it at the pump, but fuel prices are rising again. The price for a liter of diesel has been out of step with petrol for a while, now the drop in the petrol price is over.
Diesel has become almost 8 cents per liter more expensive in a week. The average suggested retail price for gasoline rose by 3 cents in a week, according to figures from consumer collective UnitedConsumers on Monday. It has to do with reduced oil production. Oil cartel OPEC and a few other countries (the OPEC+) decided last week to pump up two million barrels less per day from November. As a result, oil companies have also increased their fuel prices, especially for diesel.
On Monday, October 3, the average suggested retail price of five major oil companies was €2,083 for a liter of diesel. That has now risen to €2,162 per litre. With petrol the difference is somewhat smaller. Of this, the Average National Recommended Price rose from €2,082 to €2,112 per liter in one week. The increases in diesel prices have been out of step with those of petrol for some time. According to Paul van Selms of UnitedConsumers, this is partly due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian oil is more often used to make diesel.
Motorists usually pay less than the recommended retail price at the pump. Many gas stations offer discounts. In various places you can still fill up with petrol and diesel for less than €2 per liter.
