Prices at the pump have again climbed to a new record. The war in Ukraine seems to be causing higher oil prices for the time being and thus also a further rise in fuel prices.

The war in Ukraine is not doing the motorist any good. Prices at the pump have been at record highs for some time, but the suggested retail price for a liter of petrol rose even further last week due to the Russian invasion. It came above €2.20 for the first time. On Monday, the average suggested retail price had already risen further to €2,231, the highest point ever. Diesel is also at a record high. That now costs (GLA) €1.907 per liter. LPG stands at €1.171 per litre.

It has everything to do with rising oil prices. The price for a barrel of Brent oil, the benchmark for oil from Europe, Africa and the Middle East, climbed more than 5 percent on Monday morning to more than 103 dollars (€92). The widely traded WTI oil also rose sharply, by more than 6 percent to $97.33. Both oil prices have since fallen slightly again. On Thursday, when the invasion of Ukraine began, oil prices also rose sharply. Then for the first time since 2014, the level of more than 100 dollars per barrel was passed. Later, the prices dropped again, but on Monday they rose again significantly.
