Garmin has announced the zūmo R1 Radar, a system developed specifically for motorcyclists that offers rearview and blind spot monitoring. Indicator lights on the handlebars warn the rider of approaching vehicles. Optional side and tail lights improve rider visibility to nearby vehicles.
“With the innovative zūmo R1 Radar, we offer motorcyclists extra safety and confidence. Situational awareness is crucial when sharing the road with others. Information about approaching vehicles, especially in your blind spot, allows you to drive with more confidence. The high-visibility lighting also ensures that other road users notice you better, which increases safety for everyone.”
The zūmo R1 Radar offers multiple pairing options and can be connected to the zūmo™ Radar mobile app or a zūmo XT2 motorcycle navigation device, which is of course not included with the R1 Radar. The radar view of the vehicles within range is shown on a full screen.
In addition to visual notifications, you can also receive notifications when other vehicles approach, provided the zūmo R1 Radar is paired with a compatible helmet or headset via the zūmo Radar smartphone app.
Turn settings on and off: Light and warning settings can be adjusted via the zūmo Radar app. Riders can decide how close or far away they want their turn signals to warn them of approaching vehicles in their blind spot.
Garmin says the zūmo R1 Radar helps riders be more visible to others on the road. The compact system can easily be mounted above or below a license plate without damaging the motorcycle.
The zūmo R1 Radar is IP67 rated and resistant to dust, water and harsh conditions and is now available for the suggested retail price of €599.99.
