Electric Magma sedan on the way
While Genesis presents an updated version of the GV70 in its home country of Korea, a new, powerful Magma version of the G80 is being unveiled in China. The regular Electrified G80 is also getting an update there, so there is plenty of reason to take another look at Hyundai’s luxury brand!
Genesis is not yet present on the Dutch market, but it is not really a far-fetched show. The brand has been active in Germany, among other places, and we have already been able to travel there with several models of the brand. Today in Korea, Genesis presents an updated version of the GV70, a BMW X3-sized SUV. The changes are not major. We note a smoothed front bumper, a slightly modified grille and newly filled in headlights. There are also new wheels. At the rear, the indicators move from the bumper to the actual light units, good news for those who have ever missed such low-placed indicators.
However, the big news is on the inside. Literally, because the 27-inch display is large. The horizontal screen combination means that the top of the dashboard looks very different than before, when the infotainment screen and the instrument cluster were really two separate parts. The rotary knob to operate everything seems to survive the facelift, so unlike Audi and BMW, Genesis does not completely leave its customers to the whims of the touchscreen that is still present.
Genesis news also reaches us from the Beijing auto show. The electric version of the previously sleek G80 is ready there, or the updated variant of the Electrified G80 that we drove earlier. This i5-like also gets a new front bumper in electric form, plus the 27-inch screen that can also be found in the GV70. In China, Genesis is also emphasizing the new Magma offering. Magma stands for ultra-fast and sporty models, comparable to BMW’s M and Mercedes’ AMG. We have seen the electric GV60 Magma – on the platform of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 – before, but a G80 EV Magma Concept is also ready in China. An electric G80, but with thick Magma decoration, a unique blue color and a sporty interior. Genesis mentions a wider track, a modified part and larger brakes, but is unfortunately silent about the power of this concept car. Oh well, that will follow with the presentation of the undoubtedly next production version.
When Genesis finally comes to the Netherlands? At least not in 2024, we learned last year. For the occasion, we asked Germany whether anything concrete was known yet. If anything surprising comes out, we will of course let you know.
