German car industry achieves charging station target two years earlier

The German car industry agreed a year ago to realize at least 15,000 charging points at its own factories, dealers and other buildings by 2022. That goal has already been achieved.

The Verband der Automobilindustrie (VdA) made this commitment as part of a whole package of measures to boost electromobility in Germany. That things can go fast, is now shown: Auto-medienportal reports that the 15,000 charging points are already there, after one of the three years allocated for this.

As mentioned, this is not about public charging stations, but about poles that are located on the premises of the manufacturers themselves. This includes factories, but also offices and dealerships. It is not surprising in itself that things are going fast. After all, the first thing a dealer does after the introduction of an electric model is to install a series of charging points.

Even outside the sites of car brands, however, the construction of the charging network is well underway at our eastern neighbors. The German car manufacturers have united themselves for fast chargers in Ionity, which also includes Hyundai. In Europe 305 fast charging points of Ionity have now been realized, reports Auto-medienportal. The provisional target, 400 pieces, must be achieved next year. 101 of these should be in Germany itself by then. Of these, 94 are already in use, while another six are to be added before the turn of the year. In the Netherlands, according to the Plugshare app, we currently have to make do with nine Ionity branches.

In Germany there are more plans to make the EV more popular. For example, there was already a substantial purchase premium and a fast charger must be installed at every gas station.
