German Tesla factory closed until next week, more than a hundred million in damage

Tesla’s ‘Gigafactory’ near Berlin will remain closed until at least next week after arson yesterday, the factory manager reports. The damage could amount to hundreds of millions of euros.

The Tesla factory in Grünheide near Berlin in Germany was closed on Tuesday after arson caused the power to go out. The fire has been claimed by the left-wing extremist ‘Vulkangruppe’, which believes that Tesla is exploiting raw materials and people to make ‘killer cars’. Read: SUVs.

If this club’s goal was to cause as much misery as possible, then it has succeeded. Tesla was able to close the factory without any physical harm, but restarting the factory will be quite a challenge, according to director Andre Thierig. “We do not expect it to be possible to restart production this week,” we read on Automotive News. “We are shocked by what happened. This is the second direct attack on the factory’s power supply, while there was also an attack further along the railway line. We are concerned,” says Thierig. The damage caused by the temporary shutdown is enormous and, according to Thierig, runs into ‘high nine figures’. In short: (much) more than a hundred million euros.

Tesla boss Elon Musk is also not enthusiastic about the incident in Berlin. He addressed the ‘eco-terrorists’ via X neatly in German, but with the term ‘extreme dumm’.

Tesla builds the extremely popular Model Y in Berlin. At least, if there is power.
