Much greater reduction than in the Netherlands

Germans will pay considerably less for fuel thanks to a significant reduction in excise duties. Petrol in particular will cost considerably less. The excise tax cut is a response to the high fuel prices, partly caused by the war in Ukraine.
The German government is introducing a series of measures to help households with the sharply increased energy prices due to the war in Ukraine. For example, there will be a temporary reduction in excise duties on petrol and diesel. Due to the high energy prices, the purchasing power of many citizens is under severe pressure.
The excise tax on petrol will be reduced by 30 cents per liter and that on diesel by 14 cents. It is not clear when the three-month tax cut will take effect. Finance Minister Christian Lindner said this package of measures from the governing coalition shows that the people of Germany can count on the government to act in the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.
The reduction is much more substantial, especially on petrol excise duty than here in the Netherlands. The fuel excise here will be reduced from 1 April, on petrol by 17 cents and on diesel by 11 cents. In Germany you normally already lose less for a liter of petrol than in the Netherlands. The average price is now €2.08 per litre. Diesel is currently more expensive than petrol, with an average price of €2,173 per litre. In the Netherlands, the Average National Recommended Price of a liter of petrol is €2.442 and diesel is €2.291.
