Germany cuts subsidy for electric cars

The German consumer currently receives an allowance of €6,000 on the purchase of an electric car with a starting price of up to €40,000. That purchase subsidy will be reduced with effect from 2023, but it does not stop there.

In Germany you will receive a financial compensation of no less than €6,000 on the purchase of a new electric car with a starting price of up to €40,000. That amount will be reduced to €4,500 from 2023, various German media report. In the course of 2023, that €4,500 will also be phased out, the purchase subsidy should then fall to €3,000.

For electric cars with a catalog value of €40,000 to €65,000, you will receive an allowance of €5,000 in Germany this year. That amount will decrease to €3,000 with effect from 2023. From 2024, it would no longer be possible to apply for a subsidy at all for the purchase of electric cars with a catalog value of €45,000 or more.

Unlike in the Netherlands, you also receive a subsidy in Germany on the purchase of a plug-in hybrid. That currently amounts to a maximum of €4,500. This allowance will disappear completely with effect from 2023. In addition, the subsidies will eventually only be available to private individuals.
