Get back Notes deleted in 4 steps

Since the arrival of iOS 9, Apple’s default Notes app has become a lot more convenient, which also makes it more risky if you accidentally delete an important note. Fortunately, you can easily get them back.

Get back deleted notes

Whether you use Notes to quickly put something away, create a shopping list, or draw, there comes a time when you start looking for a note that you accidentally deleted. That’s why Apple has added a safety net that keeps all deleted notes for 30 days. They are only permanently removed after thirty days, after which you cannot get them back.

By following the steps below you can manually restore deleted notes and fish them from the trash. If you have Notes connected to iCloud, you only need to do this once for the change to take effect on all your devices. Follow the steps below to get notes back.

  1. Open the Notes app and go to the overview of folders;
  2. Choose ‘Recently Deleted’ for an overview of deleted notes;
  3. Tap ‘Edit right’ at the top of the screen and select the notes you want to put back;
  4. Choose the folder where you want to put the notes back (for example the Notes folder).

This Recently Deleted Files folder is also the place to go to toss any notes you want to permanently erase from your iPhone and iCloud. So keep in mind that deleted notes will disappear after 30 days.
