Getting your driver’s license is becoming more and more expensive: it costs an average of 2,750 euros!

Smoking is expensive, that’s a well-known fact. But it is also becoming more expensive for parents to keep the offspring off the cigarettes. On average, obtaining your driver’s license now costs 2,750 euros, according to research by the CBR. With a price like that, you’ll think twice about that reward for not smoking until you’re eighteen.

Getting your driver’s license is becoming more and more expensive: it costs an average of 2,750 euros!

In October, the Central Bureau for Driving Skills Proofs conducted a study into the average price of obtaining a driving licence. Everything is included in this: from lesson price, to exams, to health certificate and the pink pass itself. A survey among more than 2,300 successful candidates shows that this amount has increased by about 300 euros in two years, to a total of 2,750 euros.

Need more lessons

The lesson price is striking. With an average of 47.17 euros per hour, it is below the recommended retail price specified by the Rij-Instruction trade journal. The increased total price may be rooted in the increased amount of hours candidates typically need to be exam ready. During the previous survey, in 2019, people needed an average of 38 hours of driving lessons. This has now increased to 43 hours. It is quite possible that the interruptions caused by the corona lockdowns are to blame.

Increasing success rate

Candidates may also respond to the CBR’s call to better prepare for the practical exam. The reason for this assumption is the higher success rate compared to the 2019 study. At 51.6%, this is 2.5 percentage points higher. Although the costs for a driver’s license continue to increase, the chance that an even higher amount of money will go up in smoke is decreasing.
