The car industry will soon have a new partnership richer, as General Motors and Honda say they want to join forces for the North American market.
Both General Motors and Honda have according to Automotive News announced today that they have signed a memorandum of understanding. With that they announce their North American collaboration. The brands start an alliance from which several jointly developed future cars should emerge.
It is not a huge surprise that the brands are joining forces, because last April they announced that they would work together on developing several EVs. Then it became known that two EVs would arrive that leaned on GM in terms of technology, but should get a Honda carriage. The first result from the new official collaboration should show itself at the beginning of 2021.
According to a Honda spokesman, no investors would be involved in the new partnership. According to Koji Watanabe, the companies are entering into a partnership to efficiently take operations in North America to the next level. The final plans on which cars to expect and news on the development of new collaborative platforms will follow shortly.
