Also €60 million for EVs

At a time when we see electrification in almost every corner of the car country here in Europe, it sounds quite contradictory what General Motors is going to do. The American group is investing no less than €783 million in the production of a new generation of V8 engines.
Here in Europe, the V8 – except for some supercars in particular – is almost extinct in modern cars. In the United States, things are not going that fast yet. This is evident from what General Motors announces. It says it is investing €783 million in four factories in the United States to prepare them for the production of the new ‘Small Block’ V8. The sixth generation of the engine also known as the LS-V8. In 2013, the current and fifth generations were introduced, but it does not stop there.
In fact, we mainly know the LS engine in Europe from the Chevrolet Corvette. The current one also has it as a power source, although this generation has not placed it in the nose but in the middle. The V8, which has 6.2 liters as the most famous swept volume, is also the beating heart of the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and Cadillac Escalade-V, among others. The V8 will remain relevant in the home country for the time being, especially for pick-ups such as the Silverado and Sierra, so GM is preparing a new generation.
General Motors also announces that it will invest an additional €60 million in its EV production. That money is intended for the production of cooling systems for battery packs. After all, GM is already taking good steps in the electric field with its Ultium platform and also has electric versions of popular pick-ups. For example, there is a fully electric Chevrolet Silverado and an electric GMC Sierra. Although the V8 may continue for a while, preparations are already underway for a changing of the guard. For example, there will be a fully electric variant of the Chevrolet Corvette. Chevrolet recently presented the hybrid Corvette E-Ray.
