Add files from Files with Gmail
It is now possible to add files from Apple’s Files app as attachments in Gmail. The Files app was added in iOS 11, but its functionality was limited for a long time. It wasn’t until iOS 13 that Apple opened up the app, making it possible to view files from external storage services, and to store files in the Files app via other apps.
Gmail is a popular email app for iOS. The fact that it is finally possible to add files from the Files app as attachments makes the app even more practical.
That is how it works
To take advantage of this update, compose an email and tap the paperclip to add an attachment. At the heading ‘attachments’, tap the icon of a folder. Then you can add a file from the Files app.
Conveniently, you can also add files from Dropbox as attachments in this way. It is possible to open your files from Dropbox via Files. You can do this by going to ‘locations’ in the Files app.
Rollout
The rollout of this feature started on February 12 and it may take a few weeks for anyone to add files from the Files app. Make sure to download the latest version of the Gmail app. You can find it in the App Store via the link below.
