The latest update to Google’s web browser includes a feature to see a thumbnail of the open pages when you hover the tabs. Disabled by default, here’s how to take advantage of it today.
Google unveiled version 85 of its web browser a few days ago. With a completely revised tab management, Google’s web browser also includes a hidden function, currently available only in beta, and disabled by default: the preview of tabs on mouse over. Find out how to activate it now on your PC.
1. Update Chrome
If you haven’t already, update Google Chrome. To switch to version 85, you can use the update module integrated into the browser by clicking on the main menu, then in Help, by clicking on About Google Chrome.

If the built-in update does not work, you will still be able to download the installation file to force the upgrade.
- Download Google Chrome for Windows (Free)
- Download 64-bit Google Chrome for Windows (Free)
- Download Google Chrome for macOS (Free)
- Download Google Chrome for Linux (Free)
2. Access the flags
Chrome’s tab preview on hover is still in beta. This means that the function exists in the browser, but, being still under testing, it remains disabled by default for all users. To activate it, you will therefore need to access the Chrome flags page where all the browser’s experimental functions are grouped together.
To do this, just type chrome: // flags in the address bar.

3. Activate the function
In the search field displayed at the top of the flags page, find the Tab Hover Cards Image function, click on the Default drop-down menu and change the value to Enabled.

Then click on Relaunch to restart the browser so that the changes made are taken into account.

When the browser has restarted, hovering the tabs with the mouse should allow you to preview the pages open in Chrome.
