The mobile version of Gmail has a handy feature to archive messages by swiping horizontally. Here’s how to use it to remove them.
The Gmail app for iOS and Android has a horizontal finger swipe feature that archives messages. If you are not using archiving, you can configure this feature for deletion.
In android
- Launch Gmail and tap on the app’s main menu (three horizontal bars at the top left). Select Settings by scrolling down the display and tap general settings.

- Tap on Actions associated with scanning, then on To modify. You can then associate one action with swiping right (delete, for example) and another with swiping left (archive, for example).

- Choose To delete in the list of actions.
In iOS
- Launch Gmail and tap on the app’s main menu (three horizontal bars at the top left). Select Settings by scrolling down and tap on your gmail address.

- Tap on the function Action for processed messages and select Place in the trash.

The scan configuration is complete but unfortunately the iOS version does not allow you to associate two different actions depending on whether you scan to the left or to the right.
