The Google Translate app can download data for some languages and be used even if you are not logged in. Here is how to use this function.
Going on vacation to a foreign country? If you don’t know the language, you might find a translator app useful. But how do you use it if you don’t have an Internet connection? The Google Translate app provides a solution to this problem by offering to download and store language files on your mobile device, provided you have sufficient storage space. The process is relatively simple:
- Before going on vacation, connect to a fast Wi-Fi network and download the app Google Translate (we used an Android smartphone for our example but this is also valid for iOS).

- When launching, the app offers you to download the French / English translation files. Click on Ended to confirm. To install a new language, click on the drop-down list for one of the languages at the top of the screen.

- Scroll down to find the language that interests you (Italian in our example). If it is available for download, an icon is present (see screenshot below). Tap the icon, then tap To download to save the language data.

- Then go back to the top of the list of languages and tap on the one you want to use. You are ready to communicate with the natives even without an internet connection.

- And if you don’t need a language anymore, go back to the list and tap on the icon next to the language name to delete it.

This allows you to free up space on your smartphone.
