Google makes February security update available for Pixel phones

Google is currently rolling out the security update February out to the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.

Google February security update

Like every first Monday of the month, Google releases a security update for its Pixel phones that addresses various vulnerabilities in Android. This time 37 issues ranging from high to critical have been resolved. The critical vulnerabilities relate to the media framework, but bugs related to bluetooth are also being fixed.

  • What are security updates and will my phone get them?

In the accompanying Security Bulletin from February you can read which vulnerabilities Google has addressed with this update. There is also another Security Bulletin especially for Pixel phones. For the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, this was the last security update. These 2018 flagships would receive their last update with Android 12 in October 2021. Still, Google is making a patch available as they did with the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, only it will come in February instead of December.

Install update

Do you have any of the Pixel phones listed above? Then you get the update via an over-the-air update (OTA). You can also install the update manually and you can read exactly how to do that here. You can find the Factory Images here and the OTA files you can here find.

If you don’t have a Pixel phone, you have to wait until the manufacturer of your phone has rolled out the update. In the articles below you will find out if and when your phone will receive updates.
