Google Maps is a popular mapping application, and of course it is possible to calculate distance between points. You can do this from your browser on your PC as well as in the Android app. We explain how you can measure in Maps.
Google Maps measure distance
When you calculate a route in Maps, you will always see how many kilometers you have to travel to get to your destination and how long it will take you. But of course, just like on a real map, you can mark different points and measure the distance between them as a bird’s eye view.
With the steps below we explain how this works in the browser on your PC and on your Android smartphone.
Google Maps on PC
- Open Google Map
- Use the search function to find the starting point for the measurement or drag the mouse until you reach the destination
- Right click on the right place and select Measure distance to mark your departure point
- Every time you click you place a new point and the total distance appears at the bottom
- You can optionally drag the lines of the trajectory with the mouse pointer by clicking, holding the mouse, dragging and then releasing.
Google Maps on your Android phone
- Open the Google Maps app
- Use the search function to find the starting point for the measurement or swipe the screen until you are in the right place
- Place your finger on the starting point and hold.
- The city name appears at the bottom of the screen. Swipe down and press Measure distance
- Swipe the screen to the location of the second point and choose add to pin it. You can place multiple points in this way and the total distance appears at the bottom.
Do you ever use Google Maps to measure the distance between places on the map, or do you mainly use routes in Maps? Maybe there are other apps that measure the distance between places? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
