Google is currently working on a function that should ensure that the sound in a video call via Google Meet will sound better. Google wants to improve this especially for video calls in which many people participate. For example, it must be possible to split and distinguish the votes better.
Google Meet Stereo Split
Google Meet is the video calling service developed by Google. Anyone with a Google account can use it. It works both via an app on your phone and via the web browser on a Windows or Apple laptop.
For the latest version of the Google Meet app, Google is working hard on the “stereo splitting” feature. So reports 9to5Google† This function should, among other things, ensure that in a conversation with several people, you can hear better who is actually speaking. With stereo splitting, Google wants to ensure that Google Meet will record the audio in both the right and left channels. According to the company, this should make it easier to identify voices in the future. And this will be especially useful for video calls where several people are present, and also want to have several people speak at once.
At the moment, the conversation then becomes one big chaos, so that you or people cannot hear well, or you do not know who is speaking at that moment. This is partly because Google Meet is currently still transmitting the audio in mono. This should therefore be improved and largely solved with the new ‘stereo splitting’ function. Although it is still advisable to just wait your turn before you start talking straight through someone in a group meeting, right?

Availability
It is not yet known exactly when Google plans to activate the feature. However, we expect that this should still happen this year. This is partly because Google is currently working hard on adjustments to Google Meet.
