The camera of the Pixel 7 Pro has already been extensively tested by the well-known DxOMark. According to those testers, Google’s phone has the best camera of the moment, along with the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate. It does that better than the iPhone 14 Pro.
Pixel 7 Pro camera
The Pixel 7 Pro has now reached our editorial office, and next week my colleague Claudia will publish her extensive findings about the phone. In the meantime, we can already look at the performance of the camera in the test of DxOMarkwhere the Pixel 7 Pro now tops the ranking next to an Honor flagship.
With a score of 147 points, it does slightly better than the iPhone 14 Pro which achieves 146 points. Although the iPhone 14 Pro does have the better selfie camera – it achieves a score of 145 points, compared to 142 points with the Pixel 7 Pro.
Notably, Google’s new phone also cuts a gap with the Pixel 6 Pro, which isn’t all that different in terms of camera hardware. It could be an indication that Google’s focus on software improvements, particularly with ‘Super Res Zoom’ this year, is paying off. In every subcategory of the test, the Pixel 7 Pro improves.
Positive and Negative Feedback
DxOMark particularly praises the natural way the camera reproduces skin tones. The exposure and dynamic range are good, both for photography and video. Furthermore, all lenses on the phone deliver detailed photos, the autofocus works quickly and accurately and the stabilization is effective during filming. Less good is the noise that, according to the testers, is visible in shadows when there is little light. Sometimes detail is also lost when you wait and shoot close by with a short zoom range.
Keep in mind that DxOMark’s camera tests do not paint a fully realistic picture of reality. The testers check cameras on a set number of points, and phone manufacturers can basically optimize their phones to perform well in that familiar test scenario.
