In March 2012, the ‘Android Market’ was rebranded as ‘Google Play’. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the app store, Google is introducing a new logo for the Play Store. It doesn’t stop there because Google has even more to hand out.
Google Play Store gets a new logo
The new logo of the Google Play Store that we saw earlier is a fact. Google has announced this logo in honor of the tenth anniversary of the app store. Google shares some nice numbers on the Developers Blog.
- The Play Store has 2.5 billion monthly visitors from more than 190 countries
- The Play Store has generated over $120 billion in developer revenue to date
Since 2012, in addition to apps and games, we have also seen music and films appear in the app store, along with books. The first two parts have now disappeared from Google Play, the app store is not standing still. This also applies to the logo because it will look different. This new Play Store logo is intended to “better reflect the magic of Google”. According to Google, the new logo matches the corporate identity of other Google products such as Search, Assistant, Photos, and Gmail.

Extra Play Points
Google has another news in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Play Store. They give Play Points members a bonus from today. You get ten times more points for every purchase in Google Play, including in-app purchases. Google calls it a points boost. You can activate the points boost in Google Play on your mobile by tapping your profile icon and then Play Points. Open this page when you sit in front of your PC or laptop. The points boost is valid for one day and ends on July 27.
Google Play Points is a loyalty program that allows you to save points with every purchase in the app store to be able to buy other content in the Play Store. These points can be used in 3 ways:
- Convert points into Play Store credits that you can use to rent a movie or purchase an audiobook at a later time, for example
- Use points to receive coupons or in-app purchases (such as characters, coins, or gems in a game) or Google Play credit
- Receive more benefits, rewards and points as you level up
