If you are on the road a lot, listening to podcasts can be a fun activity during your train journey or your car ride. Numerous podcasts are offered on Spotify and Apple Music, but from now on a competitor will be added: Google Podcasts. This fairly simple app is purely for podcasts and works very intuitively.

The best thing about the app is that you found your favorite podcast in no time. After logging in with your Google account, type the title of the podcast in the search function. As you are used to from Google, you will immediately receive a number of suggestions. Tap the desired podcast to see all episodes.

A handy feature of Google Podcasts is the fact that you can subscribe to your favorite podcasts. In the home screen you will then see the latest episodes of all podcasts you follow.

Three tabs

The app has a simple structure and basically consists of three tabs. The first is your home screen, where you’ll see all the podcasts you’ve subscribed to. On the far right you will see the ‘Activity’ tab. Here you’ll see the episodes you’ve queued, your downloads, listening history, and subscriptions.

If you tap the magnifying glass in the middle, you can search for podcasts. Are you up to date with your subscribed podcasts? Then you will also find other podcasts here, sorted by genre. Under the ‘For you’ category, you’ll see suggestions for podcasts based on what you enjoy listening to. You can also search by genre, such as humor, news, culture or sports. The offer is huge, so you don’t have to run out.

Offline listening and queued podcasts

Want to listen offline? That is also very easy. Once you subscribe to a podcast, you can enable automatic download of new episodes. You can also download older episodes by tapping the arrow under an episode.

If you plan to listen to several episodes in a row, you can queue them up by tapping the icon with three bars and a plus sign.

Perfect app just for podcasts

If you only use Spotify or Apple Music for podcasts, then you should consider switching. Google Podcasts is free and very easy to use. Furthermore, the functions are almost the same as in other music service apps, so if you also like to listen to music, a switch does not help much.
