Google has neglected Translate for years in terms of appearance, but with the arrival of Android 12, that finally changed. A metamorphosis brought the translation app completely up to date. Now it’s time for more features for the Google Translate widget and it’s coming.
Google Translate widget with quick actions
Translate’s existing widget is quite simple in design. It only offers a 1×1 option that you can link to translations via text, camera, speech or handwriting. The new widget is called Translate quick actions and is much more convenient. With this widget you can get started with speech translation, and translate a conversation. You can also start camera mode to translate text on a photo. So the widget contains multiple options, instead of just one option as with the current widget.
The top row shows the language you have set, with a shortcut to the clipboard next to it. As soon as you resize the widget, the number of shortcuts changes. Up to four quick actions can be displayed in the widget. Are you on Android 12? Then you will see that the widget also supports Material You’s dynamic color system.
