The Chromecast from Google was almost synonymous with a TV media player, but Google says goodbye to the Chromecast. You can read how good or better the successor Google TV Streamer 4K (2024) in our review.

A TV media player is an interesting solution for TVs that are not ‘smart’ or do not have good app support and so you can play streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+ directly on your TV. For this, Google released the well -known media player Chromecast, in fact: Chromecasten is a verb for some and that also indicates the popularity of the Google Chromecast.

However, Google says goodbye to the older streaming products and replaces this with the Google TV Streamer 4K. This contains the Chromecast, the Android-based Google TV and Smart Home integration.
In terms of appearance, it does differ with the Chromecast, because the Google TV streamer 4K is a flat cupboard with a net adapter that connects you to a TV via a non-supplied HDMI cable. In terms of content, it looks again like the last Chromecast with Google TV that can receive a stream and has a full smart TV interface and remote control (with voice control). This now full -fledged media streamer with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage memory also has Android TV 14 with Google TV, many apps and the rest you get from the well -filled Play Store. You can play videos with SDR/HDR up to 4K/60FPS with the well-known HDR variants. Of course, Google has incorporated AI into its streamer: you can make screensavers and have reviews of films and series summarized.
The processor is somewhat dated, but fast enough for 4K streaming. It is more functionality at a higher price. You can expect long and good support from Google, as a supplier of the hardware and software.
