Strangely enough, Google Workspace corporate account users don’t always have access to certain features that non-paying Workspace customers do. Today, the paying users are finally getting access to one of those features.
Google Assistant on smart speakers
You might not expect it, but many Google functions are not available or only available very late for paying Workspace users. For example, these users were only able to request their appointments from Google Calendar via the Google Assistant in 2019. Enabling the help of the Google Assistant on smart displays and smart speakers was also not possible until now.
Google reports on his blog that the latest update to Google Workspace adds support for Google Assistant on smart displays like the Google Nest Hub and smart speakers like the Google Nest Audio and other smart speakers that have Google Assistant support.
Previously, Workspace users could only use the Google Assistant on Android smartphones. Now that they can also use the smart assistant in combination with a smart screen, these devices immediately become a lot more interesting for a larger group. Things like requesting calendar appointments, starting a video meeting or sending an email are now within reach for them.
availabilty
Support for smart screens and speakers was already available in beta, but is now fully rolled out. Workspace administrators still need to enable Search and Assistant for these devices to ensure that users can access Workspace data through Assistant.
The update will be rolled out in a phased manner starting July 15, and it may take up to 15 days to actually use the feature.
