Lotus is delighted. Thanks to financial support from the British government, the brand says it is able to develop a new platform for future electric cars.
Lotus has been awarded an investment by the British government that will enable the brand to develop an EV platform. That electrical base now also has a name. Lotus speaks of ‘LEVA’, an abbreviation that stands for Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture.
Lotus talks about the development of lightweight technology for future electrics models. So there is more than one fully electric Lotus in the barrel. Lotus has previously presented the Evija, a fully electric hypercar with a powertrain of around 2,000 hp thanks to four electric motors. This electro-extremist should be on the market in 2021.
Recently, new information about future electrified models of Lotus surfaced through Chinese media. For example, the brand would add two EVs to its delivery range in 2023 and 2024. Lotus would use the SPA platform of its fellow group member Volvo, known from the 60 and 90 series, for some of its models. Whether that will actually be the case will remain to be seen.
