The A10-West in Amsterdam must make way for housing, says GroenLinks. According to the political party, the part of the highway that cuts through the capital is more suitable for thousands of new homes and greenery.
GroenLinks thinks it is a good idea to sacrifice part of the crucial A10-West transit route for housing. “Through traffic on this highway causes air pollution, noise pollution and a brutal separation between different city districts in Amsterdam. While a lot of traffic does not even use the asphalt to get to Amsterdam, but as a through road to another destination,” said GroenLinks Amsterdam. In addition to the plan to build homes on the site of the A10-West, the party wants to tunnels the Kennedylaan in Eindhoven, in order to create more space for affordable homes.
The GroenLinks fraction in Amsterdam will submit a proposal to the municipality on Monday to investigate how homes can be built on the spot where the highway is currently located. According to the party, the function that the road now has can be taken over by other roads. It would concern the A10 between De Nieuwe Meer and Sloterdijk. If the A10-West were indeed to disappear as a motorway, you would have to make a significant detour to get from one point to another via motorways. Now you are on the road for about 6 minutes on that route, from now on it would take you about 16 minutes via the A4, A9 and A5 and drive 13 kilometers extra. With all the adverse environmental effects that entails.
