Today in the spotlight of the automotive unknown: Günsel. Günsel may mean nothing to you at all, although it has been around for years. What are we talking about? The national car brand of Northern Cyprus, of course!
Günsel is the brainchild of Dr. Irfan Suat Günsel, Rector of the Near East University in Northern Cyprus. You can immediately forget that, more interesting is what Günsel is and what it is planning. Günsel wants to become the national car brand of Northern Cyprus and focuses only on fully electric cars. In 2016 it built its headquarters from the ground up and in the same year the company launched the B9 Concept, a preview of an electric hatchback, the first three prototypes of which it already screwed together in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, Günsel continued to work on the B9 and decided to create a second model: the J9. The B9 is now ready for production, but the J9 is not yet. However, AutoWeek has already surfaced the patent plates of the Günsel J9. Time to go through the cars.
Gunsel B9
The Günsel B9 is an electric three-door hatchback that gets a 188 hp and 300 Nm strong electric motor from its creators. The B9, weighing 1,420 kilograms, reaches a speed of 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. There is a 52.6 kWh battery pack in the bottom, with which the Günsel B9 should be able to travel up to 350 kilometers. Extensive technical data is not yet available.

The B9 will have a relatively simple-looking dashboard with a digital instrument panel, a vertically oriented infotainment screen and a grille that runs across the entire width of the cockpit in which the outlets of the ventilation system are housed.

Although Günsel has yet to release the appearance of the final J9, technical specifications of the car are already known. Günsel says that the five-door crossover will have an 85 kWh battery and that the car can squeeze a range of about 500 kilometers from it. A sprint from standstill to a speed of 100 km / h must be done in 5 seconds. The top speed of the J9, which weighs about 2,000 kilos, must be 200 km/h. The J9 has two 375 hp electric motors together and is a four-wheel drive.
Günsel already sent out a fleet of prototypes of the B9 last year. So it doesn’t seem to be long before that car comes on the market in Northern Cyprus. Prices are not there yet.
