Gunther Werks makes Porsche 911 Speedster

California-based Gunther Werks, which, just like Singer, is eager to modernize older Porsches, comes up with a 911 that Porsche never made itself. We welcome, the 911 Speedster, but from the 993 generation.

Porsche has never officially offered a Speedster variant of the latest generation of the air-cooled 911, the 993. Yet two copies exist. A green 911 Speedster was given as a birthday present to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Ferdinand’s grandson, and a copy was commissioned by comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Anyone who is not called Seinfeld or Porsche has never had the opportunity to park a 911 (993) Speedster in front of the door. The American Gunther Werks gives the rest of the world a second chance and comes with the 993 Speedster Remastered by Gunther Werks.

Gunther Werks bases its 993 Speedster Remastered on original copies of the 911. Gunther Werks applies reinforcements to keep the body of the cut-open 911 as stiff as possible in the place where the back seat was normally located. The whole thing is covered by a carbon fiber rear deck, complete with the Speedster signature ‘humps’ behind the headrests. Furthermore, the Speedster Remastered has a much lower windscreen than regular 911s. If you wish, you can even omit the windscreen completely. The headlights and rear lights are introduced to LED technology during the Gunther Werks treatment.

The 993 Speedster Remastered is trimmed all around with custom bumper work, complete with carbon fiber raised lips and trim. The front lid is 25 percent lighter than the original. Also under the valve everything is finished with carbon fiber. On the back a striking ducktail spoiler with integrated air intake and at the bottom of the rear we observe two centrally placed exhaust pipes. The regular side mirrors have been replaced by small aluminum ones. The interior is also updated in a special way. Gunther Werks also applies carbon details here and installs carbon fiber seats with five-point belts, as well as a shift indicator with LEDs. In the back is a 441 hp and 454 Nm strong 4.0 liter six-cylinder boxer engine adapted by Rothsport Racing. Gunther Werks only produces 25 copies. A price is not known, but it will best be described as ‘high’.
