Harley recalls Pan America 1250 over TFT display software bug

Harley-Davidson has rolled out a recall for the Pan America. Due to a bug in the software, the speed is not indicated when the instrument temperature drops below freezing.

Harley recalls Pan America 1250 over TFT display software bug

Last December, Harley-Davidson was informed through its Customer Service Department of an incident in which the TFT display showed the message “Display Temperature – Please allow to cool down” along with the temperature warning system icon. Due to this warning, normal information, including speed, could no longer be read from the TFT.

Research has shown that the message is shown in the display, followed by a black screen, until the temperature of the instruments rises above freezing and the display is started up. Tests also showed that the instruments heat up themselves, so that once warmed up, there is no longer a message, even at an outside temperature of -15°C.

Although the message could only appear in the display during the warm-up phase, as long as the temperature of the display is below freezing, Harley has decided to recall the Pan America. Someone could decide to drive despite ‘no display’ and as a manufacturer you are obliged to display the driving speed at all times.

The recall concerns the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 S, manufactured between March 10 and October 19, 2021. The software of the TFT module will be updated at the Harley dealer, after which the problem should no longer occur.
