Harley recalls XL1200 and XL883 in US over warning sticker

Harley-Davidson has rolled out a very special recall in the US. With the XL1200 and XL883 models still available there in 2021 and 2022, it appears that the warning sticker on the brake reservoir can be released.

Harley recalls XL1200 and XL883 in US over warning sticker

We think it is the first thing most motorcyclists do with a new motorcycle: removing all annoying warning stickers. If a design department has gone out of its way to design a blood-curdlingly beautiful bicycle, safety tickets have to be pasted everywhere that detract from that beautiful design.

That does not alter the fact that they have to sit on it from the government when the engine is delivered and – if it is up to the government – should remain on it. Or at least not to blow off by itself.

However, the latter turned out to be the case with Harley’s 2021-2022 XL1200NS, XL1200X and XL883N. Well, maybe not blow off, but they could let go because the corners were too sharp. And so a recall had to be rolled out, because without the warning sticker there may be improper servicing of the brakes.

Now they have cleverly solved that. The owners of the total of 4,177 engines in question will receive the new (adjusted) stickers by post, with instructions on how to apply the sticker. And for those that are too difficult, you can of course call on the Harley dealer. We wonder how many of those new stickers will end up directly in the wheelie bin.
