The hemp seeds that are available for sale over the counter do not have an intoxicating effect, but are very healthy due to their valuable ingredients. Here you can find out about their ingredients, effects and use.

Hemp seeds for daily consumption do not contain THC, but the nutty-tasting seeds are rich in healthy nutrients. You can enjoy hemp seeds either shelled or unpeeled – the ingredients are similar in both versions.

In this article, you will learn what makes hemp seeds so healthy and how you can incorporate them into your diet.

Hemp seeds – a true “superfood”

Hemp seeds are very nutrient-rich and are full of good ingredients that the body needs. For example, hemp seeds contain:

  • Vitamin B1, B2 and vitamin E. Vitamin B2 supports the hormone cortisol in reducing stress. Vitamin E contributes to muscle regeneration, among other things.

  • Valuable proteins: Proteins consist of amino acids, which the body needs to produce its own proteins. Hemp seeds contain 32 grams of protein per 100 grams and all essential amino acids that must be consumed through the diet.
  • Trace elements such as calcium (70 milligrams per 100 grams), magnesium (700 milligrams per 100 grams), iron (8 grams per 100 grams) and potassium (1200 milligrams per 100 grams)

  • Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids: Both are essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce itself but must obtain from food. They contribute to cell renewal.

  • Polyunsaturated fatty acids that can lower cholesterol levels.

  • Hemp seeds contain a lot of fiber, which makes them very filling. This makes them good for losing weight.

Due to their healthy ingredients, the seeds have been proven to have many positive effects:

    • Eating them prevents heart disease.
    • Its balanced content of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids supports the immune system and the skin in cases of eczema.
    • Hemp seeds are said to be able to relieve symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopause. These symptoms include fatigue, abdominal cramps and mood swings. PMS is often caused by a nutrient deficiency, which can be curbed by hemp seeds. The gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) contained in hemp seeds also has an active effect against premenstrual complaints and the symptoms of menopause.
    • Unpeeled hemp seeds in particular promote healthy digestion due to their fiber content.

Unlike chia seeds, for example, you can buy hemp seeds locally from German production, for example in organic shops or health food stores. The unpeeled seeds are a little bitter because of the shell, but are a little healthier than the peeled seeds.

Important: Make sure that the hemp was grown in Europe, as there are strict guidelines there regarding THC content.

Hemp seeds can be integrated into your diet in many different ways. You can easily add them, like flax seeds, to

    • yogurt
    • Muesli
    • Smoothie
    • salad
    • or dough for homemade baked goods

Stir in or sprinkle the seeds over the food.

When it comes to dosage, you should remember that hemp seeds swell in the stomach and are very high in fiber. Too many hemp seeds can lead to diarrhea or an unpleasant feeling of fullness. It is therefore best not to consume more than one tablespoon of the seeds per day.
