In addition to being CEO of the Volkswagen Group, Herbert Diess is also chairman of the supervisory board of several brands of the group. Earlier, however, Diess withdrew from the Volkswagen brand and now it seems that this is also happening at Seat and Skoda.
Last year it was announced that Diess was taking a step back from the Volkswagen brand, of which he was previously CEO, and brand new CEO Ralf Brandstätter was completely in control. Sister brands Skoda and Seat have their own CEO, but Diess is also directly involved in those brands as chairman of the supervisory board. That is changing according to the German Handelsblatt, this states that Diess is withdrawing from the board.
That does not necessarily mean that the CEO of the group will have a quieter time. Diess is reportedly doing this to become more closely involved in software development within the Volkswagen Group. The Car.Software department has gone through tough times with the development of software for the electric models and the associated teething problems. Specifically, Diess would focus on attracting the right people and the management structure.
