Here’s how to remove audio from Live Photos on your iPhone

With Live Photos on your iPhone, you can take photos that come to life when you touch them on your screen. Your phone captures what happens a second and a half before and after taking the photo and turns it into a vivid photo, including audio. In some cases you may not want audio in your Live Photos, perhaps because you believe that the sound actually adds little.

Fortunately, you can remove the audio track in such photos, so that you only see the moving images, without the sound.

Get rid of the yellow speaker icon

Go to the Photos app on your iPhone and tap the Live photo whose audio you want to remove. Then click at the top right of the screen Change. In the editing screen that you will then see, you will find the Live Photo button at the bottom left, recognizable by the three circles. Now you can edit the Live Photos.

At the top left of the screen you will find a yellow speaker icon and if you tap it, you will no longer hear any sound under the relevant Live photo. The gray speaker icon with a line through it shows that the sound is off.

The sound under Live Photos is switched off by default if you have chosen certain effects, such as Repeat or Bounce. To find these effects, press a Live Photo in the Photos app and swipe it up.

By pressing the yellow speaker icon, the audio below your Live Photo will no longer be heard.

Roll back or restore

If you still want sound under the moving photo, you can press the speaker icon again. Incidentally, the original Live Photo is saved on your smartphone, so you never have to worry that you will not be able to revert certain edits. To reverse all your edits, click on Undo in the editing screen at the bottom right of the screen.

No more sound

In the editing screen you can also cut the duration of the moving photo. You do this by dragging the timeline at the beginning or end, as you would if you want to trim a video.

If you are satisfied, click on the bottom right Ready to perform the operation. Every time you view the Live photo now, you will no longer hear any sound under it, and even if you were to share the photo on social media, for example, the sound is automatically switched off.
