The tightening of the addition rules for electric cars every year does not stop consumers from buying these zero-emission cars. In the higher segment (from €40,000), seven EVs are in the top 10 of most registered cars of the past quarter.
Towards the end of the year, electric car sales are gaining momentum. The addition rate and the addition cap will increase the following year. At least, until 2026, because from then on EVs (and fuel cell cars) will be fiscally equalized with models with combustion engines.
EVs popular
The best-selling model is the Volvo XC40. No fewer than 2,443 units were registered last quarter. The fully electric Recharge models accounted for the majority (1,294). The Ford Mustang Mach-E galloped into second place with 2,249 registrations. The Polestar 2, which also became available with front-wheel drive last quarter, takes third place with 1,926 units.
Space important buying factor
It is striking that space is an important purchasing factor. The popularity of SUVs and crossovers is increasing. The high seat and plenty of space in the back seat and in the trunk give a spacious feeling. The Audi Q4 and BMW X3 take place 4 and 5 with 1,810 and 1,725 registrations. The Tesla Model Y also offers a lot of space and is in 9th place with 1,098 units. The Model 3, Tesla’s most popular model, is in seventh place with 1,257 registrations.
Battery usage versatility is increasing
In addition to a favorable addition and a lot of space, the speed of charging and the versatility of the use of the battery are also important. Some EVs can already return energy to the electricity grid (Vehicle to Grid – V2G). This quarter there are two cars in the top 10 that are equipped with Vehicle to Load technology (V2L) technology. The Kia EV6 (place 6 with 1,307 registrations) and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (place 8 with 1,220 units). With this technology, the car becomes a power bank with which electrical equipment such as an electric bicycle can be charged.
Closer is the Volvo V60. With 981 registrations, this car takes place 10. The V60, together with the BMW X3, is the only model that is not fully electric available. With 743 registrations, the mild hybrid variant is responsible for the majority of the registrations.
