Optically wider
Contrary to its direct predecessor, the seventh generation of the Honda Accord was again a truly Japanese car, which was also built there. In 2005 the model got a facelift, which made it look a bit wider.
According to ourselves and our colleagues from motoring journalism, the seventh generation of the Honda Accord was a bull’s eye. The particularly spacious Tourer version even won a double test of the Volvo V70 in 2003, which then and now has considerably greater ‘following’ than the somewhat snow-covered Japanese. That Tourer stood out extra with its vertical rear, but the sedan also got hands on with us and with the people who knew it. At the time, shortly after its introduction in 2003, it was even compared to ‘premium products’ from, for example, BMW. Not surprising, because in the US this model was sold as Acura TSX. That car stood there next to a completely different Accord, which – at least officially – never got our way.
But we digress. The ‘premium Accord’ we are talking about today got a facelift in 2005. Honda did not attack the model with the blunt axe, but came with a number of small changes. For example, the grille became wider, an effect that was further enhanced by removing the accompanying chrome strip from the hood. The combination of air intakes and fog lamps in the front bumper became a bit more voluptuous in shape. The headlights kept their original layout, but were able to rejoice in the arrival of a colorless flashing light glass.
Nothing changed at all at the rear, although we still spot some minor changes to the underside of the bumpers. Of course there were other wheels and colors, while Honda for the interior included a new steering wheel and some extra equipment. There were two roof-related news especially for the Tourer: a larger roof spoiler and new, more streamlined roof rails.
