Honda Accord Aerodeck (1988) – Into the Wild

Quintus van Rossum delights us today with a car that has almost completely disappeared from the streets: the Honda Accord Aerodeck. Unfortunately, this copy seems to want to contribute to the rarity of the Aerodeck.

Quintus did a great spot in itself, because the first Honda Accord Aerodeck is a car for connoisseurs. Most people probably don’t even know that the car ever existed, but those who do know are almost guaranteed to warm to it. How could it be otherwise, because we are talking about a three-door ‘shooting brake’ with folding headlights, but based on a middle class sedan from the eighties. Fun fact: the Aerodeck was never available in North America, but the sedan did get its nose. Including folding headlights, so!

The Aerodeck is not only special because of its body shape, but also because of its glassware. The rear side window is split in half on both sides, with the rear section opening slightly. The tailgate cuts deep into the roof and is made of glass up to that hinge point. This specific copy adds another glass plate, because it has a sliding roof. The burgundy red car also has good credentials in other areas. The color helps, as does the original Dutch license plate and the fact that in 2022 the car changed hands for the first time in at least 28 years.

Unfortunately, the car also proves that such a history does not guarantee a beautiful copy. Rust, about the only enemy of the old Japanese, is present in abundance. The holes are not only around the rear wheel arches, which are extremely attractive to rust, but also in the roof, tailgate and bonnet. There seems to be no saving anymore, although such an Aerodeck is in principle special enough to make a lot of effort. Perhaps the new owner is planning just that? Let’s hope so…
