Honda ADV350: for the urban jungle

It’s been rumored for a while, but now it’s official: Honda has expanded its scooter lineup for 2022 with the ADV350, the smaller and more urban variant of the X-ADV launched five years ago.

Honda ADV350: for the urban jungle

Sometimes ideas are so masterfully simple that you wonder why no one thought of it before or why it hasn’t been imitated (yet). The Honda X-ADV is a good example of this. Launched in 2016, the X-ADV was a mix of a motor scooter and an Adventure motorcycle – an SUV style scooter that no one knew they needed.

Five years later, the sales figures have shown that there was a market for the X-ADV, in September 2021 the X-ADV took second place on the sales list of the popular on-off category. The X-ADV was living proof that scooters are really not old-fashioned and boring.

The success of the X-ADV has motivated Honda to release a smaller version. With the central concept of “New Urban Adventure”, the new ADV350 now combines the practicality of a brushed-down scooter with the robust SUV style inspired by the X-ADV, with which Big Red has targeted younger European riders in particular. Ready to explore the city and go far beyond.

Practicality has been at the top of the ADV350’s wish list, according to Honda. For example, there is space for two full-face helmets under the saddle, a USB charging point in the glove compartment and operation via Smart Key makes everyday use easier. The windshield is height adjustable and the Honda Smartphone Voice Control System is integrated into the LCD dashboard.

The adventurous styling is clearly derived from the X-ADV. The riding position promotes natural control, Honda says, and the tubular steel chassis has been built around agility, feedback and feel. Suspension consists of a 37mm upside-down fork and twin rear springs with separate reservoir.

The 15-inch front wheel has tire size 120/70-15, the 14-inch rear wheel has a 140/70-14 tire. The tubeless tires have a stud profile so that the ADV350 has sufficient grip in all conditions. The 256mm single disc provides stopping power along with the 240mm disc at the rear.

At the heart of the ADV350 is the 330cc enhanced Smart Power+ (eSP+) single overhead cam engine, which delivers a peak horsepower of 29 hp at 7,500 rpm and peak torque of 31.9 Nm at 5,250 rpm. Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) and an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) are standard equipment.

Honda claims a consumption of 3.33 liters per 100 km, or 30 km/l in WMTC mode, with a tank capacity of 11.5 liters, the ADV350 has a theoretical range of more than 340 kilometers.

The ADV350 should not only be fun in the Urban Jungle, but also very practical. For example, the windshield can be easily adjusted on two levels and over 133 mm. In the high position, it directs the wind flow around the rider’s shoulders to reduce fatigue during long highway trips. In an urban environment, where refreshing winds are sometimes welcome – as is good visibility – the low position is ideal, according to Honda.

Then the storage space. 48 liters of storage space is provided under the seat, which, according to Honda, is more than enough to neatly store two full-face helmets. The compartment can be divided according to the rider’s preference with a divider. A USB Type-C charging port in the lockable glove box on the front left allows you to charge the smartphone on the go. The saddle height is an accessible 795mm.

Thanks to the Honda Smartphone Voice Control System integrated in the dashboard, your smartphone connects to the ADV350. The system allows you to make calls on the go and manage music via voice control. All you need is a helmet headset and the Honda RoadSync app. The smartphone is connected via Bluetooth. You can operate the HSVC system via a button on the left handlebar.

Another handy addition is the Smart Key. It controls the ignition main switch and seat lock from the rider’s pocket and automatically locks the ADV350 when the rider leaves the scooter. The optional 50 l Smart top box is also controlled by the Smart Key. A call function makes the direction indicators flash so that you can quickly find your scooter.

The ADV350 is available in three colors: Spangle Silver Metallic, Matt Carbonium Gray Metallic and Matt Carnelian Red Metallic. Price and delivery time are not yet known.
