To shove
The model name Integra still makes the blood flow faster among Honda enthusiasts and so Honda makes the new Civic Hatchback an Integra Hatchback. A special step, but it has no consequences for the Civic Hatchback. What’s up with that?
The name ‘Integra’ does not only mean something to Honda enthusiasts, the upper management of Honda apparently also gets complicated feelings about it in the gut. For example, Honda’s luxury division Acura in the United States has been selling a new Integra since last year. That’s a five-door hatchback that shares its engineering with the most recent Honda Civic, but it doesn’t share a piece of sheet metal with it. But there is more new Integra fun to be had in the car world, although you have to go to China for that. The current generation Civic Hatchback and the sedan version not available here are in the showroom at Dongfeng Honda in China. Honda’s second joint venture in China – GAC Honda – sells a car called Honda Integra. It has nothing to do with the Acura Integra from the outside. In fact, it is a Honda Civic Sedan with a modified front and its own buttocks. The Chinese Honda Integra is now joined by a hatchback.
Not surprisingly, the new Chinese Integra has Honda Integra Hatchback. It stands to ‘our’ Civic Hatchback as the Chinese Integra Sedan to the Civic Sedan. The Integra Hatchback therefore shares most of its bodywork with the well-known Civic Hatchback, but has a modified nose and a slightly different rear. The Integra has different headlights, a different grille and different and especially sportier designed bumpers all around. The taillights are this time taken over from the Civic on which it is based. With a small difference in length of about 1.5 centimeters caused by the other bumpers, the Integra Hatchback is the same size as the Civic Hatchback. There is no question of a longer wheelbase.
In Europe, the new Civic is only available as a hatchback. Moreover, it is only available as a hybrid e:HEV or as a spectacular Type-R. The Integra Hatchback is also available in China as a hybrid, but is also available with a 182 hp 1.5. You may know that powertrain from the previous generation Civic.
Slide and switch
This Integra Hatchback has no relevance for the European market. After all, he will never leave China’s borders through official channels. It is, however, another interesting example of how cars in markets other than the European one can be completely different. With its two Chinese joint ventures in China, Honda also has a very busy model range in which various models overlap. For example, GAC Honda’s Breeze is a modified CR-V that Dongfeng Honda carries. Furthermore, the Crider (GAC Honda) and Envix (Dongfeng Honda) are actually the same cars. The same applies to the Accord (GAC) and Inspire (Donggeng), Odyssey (GAC) and Elysion (Dongfeng). Fit (Jazz, GAC) and Life (Dongfeng), Fiber (HR-V, GAC) and XR-V (Dongfeng), Avancier (GAC) and UR-V (Dongfeng).
