Honda Civic – Welcome endurance test: ‘sold out for the time being, but it is that good’

Newest Civic is a nice hybrid

If you think that only Ferraris and Rolls-Royces are hard to get your hands on, you’re wrong. Introducing our new Honda Civic endurance test car.

Let’s start with the bad news: the Civic has become a great success for Honda. So big that the price list says you can’t order it. This does not only apply to the Netherlands, it is also sold out in other European countries. It is not clear when the Civic can be ordered again, but that will take a while. That we have him in the ranks is therefore quite special.

A Civic e:HEV Advance

The latest endurance tester is a Civic e:HEV in Advance version. As for motorization, there is nothing to choose, it is always this hybrid powertrain. We will return to that power source in more detail in a subsequent report, but Honda wouldn’t be Honda if it didn’t approach things slightly differently from other brands. The Japanese have come up with a technological masterpiece. Honda’s system consists of a brand new 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 143 hp and 186 Nm. But unlike most hybrids, the power of the internal combustion engine does not contribute to the total system power. That is exactly the same as that of the electric motor that drives the front wheels: 184 hp and 315 Nm. It gets its energy from a second electric motor that serves as a generator. And this electric motor is in turn powered by the 2-liter four-cylinder.

The Advance is the third and most luxurious variant. You can recognize it from the outside by the panoramic roof and the 18-inch two-tone wheels. On the inside, the Advance sets itself apart with a beautiful digital display and Bose audio. Of course we sit on leather, if desired with the seat heating on.

Consumption of 1 in 20 should be possible

In the coming six months we will do fun things with this red Civic. Of course we dive into history, because this is already the eleventh generation Civic. Honda has paid subtle homage to early models in the design of the dashboard. The wide grille with ventilation is reminiscent of the dashboards of 1980s Hondas, which also had such a wide panel. Of course, the Civic can compete against a competitor in a comparison test and we will pay close attention to its consumption. Because Honda promises 1 in 20, and we want to see that!
