Interesting for Europe?
Honda is attacking the car market with a brand new crossover. Not on the Dutch and not on the European market, but on the Indian market. This is the Honda Elevate, a new small high-legged that also comes in a fully electric version.
In Europe, the HR-V is the smallest crossover you can buy from Honda, but elsewhere in the world the long-legged offering looks very different. For example, Honda has the WR-V on the menu in South America, a compact crossover that was presented in a completely new form in Indonesia last year. In India, the Honda offering is quite limited at the moment. It only offers the City and the Amaze. At least, until now. Honda enriches the Indian range with this Elevate, a new crossover that will also be available as an EV.
The model name of Honda’s new crossover is interesting. Like the Prologue presented in the United States – and much larger for that matter – the Elevate does not have a name ending in -V. That is certainly not self-evident within Honda’s SUV and cross department. The Honda Elevate is 4.31 meters, 1.79 meters high and 1.65 meters wide. Its wheelbase: 2.65 meters. This makes it a size larger than the aforementioned WR-V and only slightly smaller than the HR-V. Remarkably enough, the wheelbase of the Elevate at 2.65 meters is 4 centimeters longer than that of the known here and therefore slightly longer HR-V. The luggage compartment is 458 litres.
The Honda Elevate has a fairly angular, robust design for a compact crossover that somewhat reminds us of the Toyota Yaris Cross. Honda itself speaks of ‘bold and masculine design’. The interior includes a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.
Honda supplies the Elevate in India with a 121 hp and 145 Nm strong 1.5 i-VTEC petrol engine. That machine is tied to a manual six-speed gearbox, but is also available in combination with a CVT. Within the next three years, Honda will launch a fully electric crossover based on this Elevate.
The Elevate is the first of five crossovers and SUVs that Honda will market in India through 2030. Will the Elevate remain purely an Indian party? No! The Elevate does roll off the production line in India and will therefore be the first on the market there, but according to Honda it will also export the crossover from India to other countries. Whether the Dutch market is part of this? Who’s to say. The e-Ny1 intended for the Netherlands is an electric variant of the HR-V built in China. The electric Elevate could therefore just make the crossing to Europe.
