Honda is currently still the engine supplier of Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri, but Ford will take on that task from 2026. Honda will remain active in Formula 1 and will make the switch to Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team.
For years, Honda supplied the powertrains that propelled Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri F1 cars. Honda will continue to do that (albeit a little more in the background) up to and including the 2025 F1 season, after which Ford will work with Red Bull Powertrains on the power units for the two Red Bull teams. However, Honda is eager to remain active in the premier class of motorsport and has found a new partner: Aston Martin.
From 2026, Honda will supply powertrains for the full Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team F1 team, where Fernando Alonso is currently impressing. Aston Martin is currently still using powertrains from Mercedes-AMG in Formula 1.
From the 2026 F1 season, new FIA regulations are in effect that more or less dictate that 50 per cent of the powertrain’s power must come from an electric motor. The remaining 50 percent may still come from an internal combustion engine. But there’s more. The Energy Recovery System (ERS) will soon deliver up to three times as much power. So Honda has quite a bit to develop.
