Honda Freed

Since the introduction of the first generation in 2008, the Honda Freed has been as practical as it is unknown in Europe. The Freed is now in its fourth generation and it is also a particularly practical and spacious model.

On autoweek.nl we regularly take a look at what is happening far beyond the Dutch and European borders. This time we arrive in Japan, where Honda has presented a completely new generation of the Freed. The Freed may be unknown here, but that does not mean that the model has only been around for a short time. Honda launched the first Freed in 2008 and the third generation, launched in 2016 and refreshed in 2019, is now being succeeded by a completely new one.

Just like its predecessors, the new Honda Freed is another so-called ‘midi-MPV’, a relatively compact space giant in a segment that virtually no longer exists in Europe. Honda has not yet released extensive technical information, although we do know that the Freed will be available with hybrid powertrains called e:HEV.

Honda Freed: that’s easy to load!

The Honda Freed has two sliding doors and will be available in two lines. It comes as Freed Air and as an extra adventurously decorated Freed Crosstar. The Freed Air always has three rows of seats and is available in six- and seven-seater configurations. The Freed Crossstar is available as a six-seater, but is also available with only two rows of seats and five seats. The seats in the third row can be folded away under the loading floor of the luggage compartment. Anyone who opts for a Freed Crosstar with two rows of seats will be treated to an extremely low sill for the luggage compartment. The Freed is also available with a ramp for wheelchair users, for example. The seats in the second row can be moved lengthwise over a considerable distance.
